Continuing the success of his EP, Freak show, local artist Junior Mesa ended 2021 with more visuals from his project, a psychedelic pop stunner filled with existential questions and self-discovery. As a deeply personal and conceptual work, the five-track EP elevates Mesa’s music to new heights as he writes about his struggles with the recent diagnosis of epilepsy, the effect it has had on his life and career of making music and how to deal with feeling cut off from your creative endeavours.
With highly imaginative and whimsical music videos, if a bit dark at times, Mesa draws out emotions and experiences that are hard to explain in simple ways. Instead, Mesa finds a way to create abstract, psychedelic visuals that more accurately depict the status he finds himself in.
A project firmly rooted in healing, Mesa is taking all the hardships of the past few years to re-ignite itself as an artist and individual, while drawing inspiration from groundbreaking artists of the past. Even though Mesa has struggled to get back into writing and recording, 2021 has been a year of tremendous growth and musical artistry that is sure to continue into next year.
With their recent impressive show at The Glass House in Pomona as part of Viva Pomona, Junior Mesa then opens its doors to a North American tour alongside Dublin-based band Inhaler from March 2022 with back-to-back dates in LA March 31 and April 1 at Belasco downtown. Additional dates in California include San Diego and San Francisco.
